Knowing mattress sizes will help you design and make a quilt that fits the bed perfectly.

Mattress Sizes:

• Crib Mattress Size: 28″ x 52″
• Twin Mattress Size (Single): 39″ x 75″
• Full Mattress Size (Double): 54″ x 75″
• Long Twin Mattress Size: 36″ x 80″ (Most beds in college dorms have long twin mattresses)
• Queen Mattress Size: 60″ x 80″
• King Mattress: 76″ x 80″
• California King Mattress Size: 72″ x 84″

Mattress sizes seem to get more numerous as time goes by. We no longer have the basic twin, full (or standard), queen and king mattresses to choose from. Knowing what’s available and what you have space for will help you narrow your decision. But there are styles that can impact the size you buy because they can be moved out of the way when not in use.

Mattress sizes include the common king, queen, full, and twin sizes, but there are also other sizes like California king, super king, California queen, and Olympic queen. The dimensions of each are listed below:

• Super king mattress (available in Europe mainly) — 70 x 80 inches
• California king mattress — 72 x 84 inches
• King size mattress — 76 x 80 inches
• California queen mattress — 60 x 84 inches
• Olympic queen mattress — 66 x 80 inches
• Queen size mattress — 60 x 80 inches
